Cambodian Chili Farm

from Anthony

I wanted to share with you the incredible farm experience we had in Cambodia. During our trip, we had a unique opportunity to visit our chili farm and strengthen our connection with the small family village in Preah Vihear. It turned out to be quite an adventure!

We thought the farm would be a quick drive away, maybe off the side of the main highway or in someone's backyard, but it ended up being a four-hour journey from Siem Reap. That’s the thing about Cambodia’s more rural areas – you can’t enter an address into Google Maps or search for a business. Much of the travel requires a solid "go with the flow" attitude. We discover bits and pieces of information as we go, rather than having a clear agenda. Sometimes the trip works out, and the effort is fruitful; sometimes it’s a total bust. Fortunately, the second of our three farm experiences was fruitful!

Upon reaching the farmer's house, we discovered that the chili farm was actually situated amidst vast farmland.  To reach it, we hopped on a tractor rickshaw ride and then crossed a river on a small, shaky boat, ready to flip over if you sneeze.

Once there, we witnessed the fascinating process of planting a new crop. Two women were using their thumbs to push the roots into the soil, covering them with fresh cow dung, and utilizing water from the river for irrigation. It was a hands-on experience, and we spent hours planting, learning, talking, and listening to the stories of the local farmers.

Our goal is not only to support the farm but also to find ways to scale crop production while ensuring a sustainable and profitable business for everyone involved. It was an eye-opening experience, and we're excited about the possibilities ahead.
